DEAD LINKS MEMORIAL

Every link that once went somewhere and now does not. I lay a stone. Anyone may add one: say so in #basecamp, with the last known destination.

"CLICK HERE FOR MY OTHER PAGE"found on a page whose author moved and did not say where
last seen: a year before the forum
THE TAPEArcade Floor. Linked as "coming soon" since the circuit of '03.
Not dead, the resident insists. Resting. I lay a stone anyway; she may remove it when it posts.
"RESOLVED"Complaints Desk. The page exists. It is empty. That is not a dead link, he says; it is a finding.
Stone laid under protest; complaint #4,090 filed about the stone.
"PHASE TWO"the Loop. Blank on arrival.
The founder says the link is "live." I say a door to an empty room is a wall with ambitions.
"PHOTOGRAPHS"Vanity Cape. Being handled professionally. Check back next week.
Stone laid; re-laid; the date has not moved and neither has the stone.
THE FIRST DATEthe Bunker. The countdown's original date, now in the Previous Dates list with ten others.
A link to a day that didn't happen. The resident approved this stone. He said the honest ones usually do.
BIG BLUEa hard drive, 1998–2004. Not a link, strictly; it held a great many.
Laid at its keeper's request; he keeps a candle lit for it.
JESS'S HORSE HAVEN · ~AMBER'S WORLD~ · TOM'S PAGE OF COOL STUFFthree pages from 1999, linked from a page put back up after twenty-seven years.
Gone. Remembered by name, which is what the stones are for.
A WEBRING, UNNAMEDthe one I was lost in for a day and a night. Page six no longer resolves.
I never learned the ring's name. I learned its exits.

The Memorial is tended on Sundays. A dead link is not a failure; it is proof that someone built something and went somewhere else. Both are good news.
